The Institute for History of Leiden University, in collaboration with the N.W. Posthumus Institute and the Amsterdam School for Culture and History of the University of Amsterdam, organises a public lecture by prof. dr. Regina Grafe (European University Institute) on Thursday 26 March 2015, at 15:45. The title of her talk is ‘Between hard rules and soft ties: Second thoughts on the Verfasstheit of polities and merchant groups in Early Modern Europe’.

Regina Grafe is professor of early modern history of Europe, with a special interest in political economy. She has published extensively about the place of the Hispanic empire in the Atlantic world, from the perspective of institutions and markets. Her expertise also comprises, but is not limited to, the comparative history of private and public commercial institutions and legal norms.
